As anybody within reach of a TV will attest, former Vice President and de facto Republican Party mouthpiece Dick Cheney has been making the rounds of the talk shows recently. He and his daughter are attempting to drive home the message that what Vice President Cheney did while in office with respect to pressing for the torture of so-called “enemy combatants”was not only legal, but a reasonable response to the circumstances America was in at the time. This legacy-building tour of the TV talking heads seems to be an attempt to focus the public’s attention on the idea that Cheney’s tactics kept America safe.

In doing so, he has gone the extra step of advocating that President Obama’s policy changes since taking office have made America less safe. So vehemently is he asserting this, that current CIA Director Leon Panetta was moved to state that Mr. Cheney is almost “wishing that this country would be attacked again, in order to make his point.”

Boy, I tell you: THAT’S a patriot. There’s a true-blue American hero for you. In a vain and selfish attempt to make sure history remembers him as something other than a cranky and delusional old fart who spent seven years using the Constitution as his colostomy bag, he wishes that more innocent Americans lose their lives.

The sooner that fascist bastard kicks the bucket, the better off we’ll all be.
